Umeå Energy Centre

klabböle kraftverk

Umeå Energy Centre is beautifully situated south of the river Umeälven, a couple of kilometres upstream from Umeå. This is a place loaded with our electrified history.

In 1899 the wheels of the newly built power station in Klabböle started turning. There was already a steam-driven power station in Umeå, but the demand for electricity increased so water power was chosen here.

The power station has now been converted into a museum which tells the story of early Swedish electricity production. You can admire the original generators among relay boards and lightning-conductors. The generators were in use until 1959 when the power station in Stornorrfors was completed. Take the chance to join a guided tour.

There are also energy exhibitions, café, experimental workshop and an adventure playground for children.
