Into EternitySun 26 Mar — Sun 29 Oct
Västerbotten Museum’s mission is to preserve, nurture, and bring to life our cultural heritage. Art is a vital part of Västerbotten’s cultural heritage, and the museum’s role is to give the public a view of the region’s historical and contemporary art. A key aspect of that effort is to continue developing a collection of art and preserving it for future generations.
Västerbotten Museum’s art collection comprises approximately 5,500 cataloged works: paintings, sculptures, drawings, graphic prints, and sketches. The museum’s acquisitions policy aims to build up a representative collection of works by artists who come from, work in, or have worked in Västerbotten County. The collection illuminates the development of fine art in the region. In addition, the collection provides opportunities for art historical study and research on the art of the region with material that can be found nowhere else.
Suzanne Steneberg, Art Curator at Västerbotten Museum, has been working since 2013 to manage and develop the museum’s collection of art. She has carefully selected, purchased, and taken in works by currently active artists who have connections with the county in one way or another.
The exhibition Into Eternity is the result of her work. It features 62 works by 33 different artists, all acquired for Västerbotten Museum’s art collection during the last ten years.
