Photographer and field ethnologist Sune Jonsson is especially known for his documentary images from the Västerbotten rural communities. However, an often overlooked creative side of Jonsson is his literary work.
In his photo documentations and films about people and events in a changing time, he told stories about what was about to fall into oblivion. As an author he chose to depict what had already past into that forgetfulness. In his desire to also document what the camera cannot capture, Sune Jonsson sought inspiration and fragments from tales, legends and stories. His texts are characterized by magic as well as concrete reality. Here, blazing precise formulations meet with a language draped in a poetic shimmer.
The exhibition is largely based on a short documentary focusing on Sune Jonsson’s literary work. Here we meet some of the people who know his authorship well, giving unique insights into his creative processes.
