Umeå – Memories and future
For our exhibition on the City of Umeå’s history, we have gathered together memories of Umeå: objects, music and photographs. For those who dare and are small in size, a tour in the tunnel under the city might appeal …
We offer a place to share your memories through stories, photographs and objects.
A town can be small and cramped like Umeå in the early 20th century as depicted by Frida Åslund, Astrid Väring and particularly Lars Widding in his chronicle of a provincial town. A town can also be open and permissive, providing space for creativity and enterprise. The university has helped to turn Umeå into a multicultural city through its contacts with the rest of the world. Momentous historical events have taken place, some of them immortalised in pictures, newspaper articles and diaries. But everyday life is often forgotten.
The exhibition Umeå – Memories and the Future collects your memories and reflects ideas and plans for the future of the city.
